Do you love cacti? These thorny plants are often used as ornamental plants in the outdoor or indoor. It’s because of cacti are a low-maintenance plant which can store water and can adapt to hot climates with low rainfall, so that it’s suitable for a busy person.
Well, you may equate the cacti with succulent plants. Both plants equally have the same ability, but the point is cacti are succulents but not all succulents are cactus. However, cacti are fleshy plants which have many amazing facts as will be explained below.

Cactus is succulent plant (as explained above) because its body parts are able to save the water, such as roots, stems, and leaves.

Those are areoles which are owned by cactus. Areoles are thorny wadding cotton that can grow flowers and roots. At a glance, succulents have spines but they don’t have areoles.
Cactus roots are unique because they don’t grow down but horizontally and only in a few inches under the soil surface. Even though you see that cacti are a small plant, in fact, they have big roots in which their roots are the core of them. The function of the roots is to hold the plant and to get the water and mineral maximally.
Actually, cactus spines are leaves. The leaves grow from the areoles. But, don’t underestimate with the existence of cactus spines. They function to protect cactus from sunlight and from cold. Some types of cactus have transparent spines which allow the sunlight for photosynthesis system. Additionally, the main function of spines is used as protectors of birds and animals which love to chew the cactus.
Cacti have flowers in big sizes with various colors, like pink, red, yellow, and others. Some flowers only bloom in a few days, while others only in one day. Besides that, some cactus flowers also bloom only at night, while others bloom in the daytime. The flowers which bloom at night will be pollinated by bats, insects, and other nocturnal animals.
