Having a garden doesn’t have to be in front of the house or behind it. Especially for limited space, you can create a beautiful garden on the roof of your house. It’s called as a roof garden. Actually, a roof garden has existed since the 6th century BC in Babylonia. Having a roof garden besides your own refreshing place, you can also help the environment. Roof

The most important thing is to make sure that you have strong roof or housetop because it will prop the load. You can make concrete roof which has tilt about 20 to 30 degrees. Every concrete column has a size of 20 cm x 20 cm with a thickness of concrete floor is 20 cm for an area of 50 square meters. Make sure that you have an appropriate calculation because the concrete doesn’t only support its own load, but also the soil, plants, and others.

Plant container

It’s the place for your plants. You can create round, square, oval, or even combination shapes of the container at the edge of concrete construction. Adjust the container shape with the concrete area.

Waterproof layer

Coat the concrete construction and plant containers with waterproof material to prevent the water seepage. It’s not only for protecting the underneath rooms but also for irons and block columns.

Clean and dirty water installation

Clean water installation is for watering the plants. It’s directly connected with a water pump or water reservoir. Meanwhile, the wastewater or dirty water installation to the lowest edge of the concrete area. Then, connect it with guttering pipes to the absorption container to the disposal canal.

Use coconut fibers

Put the coconut fibers in a row on the concrete area regularly. You can also use coco peat for your rooftop garden. Coconut fibers are for holding and filtering the water that absorbs the soil and sand.

Use red soil

Use red soil and humus as growing media. Choose soil that contains appropriate Ph (about 5 to 7) and the height of soil layer is about 5 to 15 cm.
